Downtown Apex and the streets radiating off Salem hold the oldest stock: turn-of-the-century and early 1900s houses with tall narrow sash, wide casing, and in a number of cases original glass worth not disturbing. Deep casing on those homes is an advantage. You have enough reveal for a clean inside mount, and the trim frames the treatment properly instead of the treatment sitting on top of the trim. Shutters look right in those rooms because the frame reads as millwork.

The townhome sections are where side windows sit close to the neighbor unit and privacy drives everything. On the larger Bella Casa homes the concern flips to the covered outdoor spaces. Those deep porches and screened areas are genuinely usable most of the year here, and exterior solar shades on the open side turn a porch that is unbearable at five o clock into one you can actually sit on.
