Custom Blinds & Shades in Wendell, NC

Wendell sits about twenty minutes east of downtown Raleigh, and until fairly recently it was a small town with small-town housing stock. Wendell Falls changed the arithmetic.

We now do more work in the newer sections than in the old town center, though the older houses are the more interesting measure.

What we see in Wendell homes

Wendell Falls is a master-planned community running from roughly the low $300s into the $750s and up, with a long list of builders on site — Homes by Dickerson, Lennar, M/I, David Weekley, Garman, Dan Ryan, and others. Each builder brings its own window package, which means two houses on the same street can have different frame depths and different reveal. We do not assume anything from the plat here. Every house gets measured on its own, even when it looks identical to the one we did last week.

The design language across most of Wendell Falls is modern farmhouse, and that pushes toward a specific look: black or bronze window frames, white trim, clean lines. Heavy wood-tone blinds fight that. Flat Roman shades in a natural weave or a plain roller in a warm white sit better with it, and shutters in a crisp white read as architecture rather than accessory. It is a real design question, not a matter of taste, and we bring the samples that belong in those rooms.

Downtown Wendell and the streets off Main are older — farmhouse and mill-era cottages, some with original wood sash still running on weights and cords. Those windows are worth being careful with. An inside-mount bracket driven into a weight pocket can bind the sash. We locate the pocket before we drill, and where the casing is too shallow to take a bracket cleanly we mount to the wall above rather than damage original trim.

Builder packages vary inside one community

Wendell Falls has a dozen builders working simultaneously, and window specs are not uniform across them. We measure per house rather than per floor plan.

Original sash and weight pockets

Older downtown homes often still have counterweight sash. Drilling blind into that casing can foul the cord. We probe first and mount outside the pocket where necessary.

Questions

Common questions from Wendell homeowners

What works with black-framed farmhouse windows?

Keep the contrast deliberate. A warm white or greige roller, a natural-weave Roman, or white shutters all hold up next to a black frame. What tends to look wrong is a mid-tone wood blind, because it competes with the frame instead of framing it.

Our house is brand new. Should we wait before ordering?

No need. New construction openings are square and consistent, which makes them the easiest thing we measure. The one thing worth doing is deciding on transoms and any two-story glass up front, so the whole room comes from one order.
