Olde Liberty is the largest single community in town — a golf course development off 401 with more than 900 homesites across ten sections including Ashberry, Colonial, Dominion, Lexington, and Province Grande. Most of it went up from the mid-2000s onward, and a good portion is age-restricted. That last part changes what we recommend. Cordless and motorized lift is not a preference in those houses. It is the difference between a shade that gets adjusted daily and one that stays wherever it was left. We spec continuous-loop or motorized on anything above about a 40-inch drop there as a matter of course.

The newer neighborhoods — Holden Creek Preserve, Winston Ridge, and the builds still going up along the 96 corridor — are current-code production homes on larger Franklin County lots. Bigger lots mean less shading from neighboring structures and more direct sun on the rear elevation. Rooms facing west across an open back yard take heat that a comparable house in a denser Wake County subdivision would not. Solar shades handle that better than a blind does, because you keep the sightline out into the yard.

Spencers Gate and the older established streets closer to downtown are a mix, and there are still a fair number of homes here with original aluminum or early vinyl replacement windows. Those have narrow, shallow frames and many of them will not take an inside mount at all. We measure the reveal first thing on those houses so we are not designing toward something that will not fit.
